Confluence Academies students at Aspire Academy, Old North Academy, and South City Academy are getting a fresh start with new shoes, thanks to a generous donation from Sneakers with Soul. In this first year of partnership with the non-profit organization, Sneakers with Soul has provided 60 pairs of new shoes to students in need—a number that will continue to grow.
Founded by Maurice Parisien, Sneakers with Soul aims to address one of the most fundamental needs of children and youth: a good pair of shoes. The organization is committed to helping economically disadvantaged students in the St. Louis area by providing brand-new, high-quality shoes, giving students the comfort, confidence, and support they need for their educational journeys. The organization operates with a mission of bringing hope and dignity to students and their families, allowing them to focus more on their studies and less on unmet needs.
Students who received new shoes are thrilled with the donation. Francis, a 5th-grader at South City Academy, shared, “They feel nice. I have enough space for them to grow,” showing his appreciation for the new shoes. Shane, a 3rd-grader, added with enthusiasm, “They feel really comfortable, and I really like them because, in my opinion, Batman is one of the best superheroes.” For these students, new shoes are more than footwear—they are a source of pride and confidence.
Confluence Academies social workers have witnessed firsthand the positive impact of this partnership. Beverly S. Wells, social worker at Old North Academy, shares how meaningful this support has been for students: “Sneakers with Soul has blessed many of our students in need. Joining forces keeps in line with the mission of Confluence Academies as we seek to develop the whole child.”
At Aspire Academy, Trauma-Informed Social Worker Dr. Tracyne Caumartin appreciates the profound difference these shoes make in students’ lives. Reflecting on the donation, she quotes Dr. Seuss: “You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.” She added, “A special thanks to Mr. Parisien for his generous donation of brand-new shoes to our students. Now they will be able to run another million miles in any direction they choose!”
For students in need, a new pair of shoes can mean more than just physical comfort. They offer a sense of belonging, self-esteem, and readiness to engage in school. Confluence Academies is grateful to Sneakers with Soul for their compassion and commitment to students' well-being and is looking forward to building on this impactful partnership.
This meaningful donation to Aspire, Old North, and South City Academies reinforces Confluence’s mission to support the whole child, offering not just educational resources but the practical and emotional support students need to thrive.
