After retiring as superintendent of the Special School District of St. Louis County in 2008, Dr. Kachris has held several interim positions. He is wrapping up an 18-month assignment as the oversight officer for the Normandy Schools Collaborative, a role he was given by the Commission of Education.
Prior to serving as the oversight officer for Normandy, Dr. Kachris served for 18 months as the president of The St. Joseph School for the Deaf with the assignment to help streamline and reorganize the school.
During his tenure as superintendent of SSD, he helped SSD regain accreditation and he instituted a major reorganization that ultimately led SSD to be recognized this past year by the Excellence in Missouri Foundation with the Missouri Quality Award. Dr. Kachris has also served as an adjunct professor at Missouri Baptist University and Webster University. Prior to coming to St. Louis in 2000, Dr. Kachris spent many years serving as a leader in school districts in upstate New York. He holds a Ph.D. from Syracuse University.
As Dr. Kachris assumes the new role of interim CEO for Confluence, he will be the sole employee reporting directly to the Confluence Board of Directors. All other employees in the Resource Office and the schools will report to him. Over the next several months, Dr. Kachris will help the Board and other administrators within Confluence resolve a number of issues and he will begin the process of Confluence’s application to renew its charter with the University of Missouri-Columbia.
The following are some of the issues the Board has asked Dr. Kachris to work on in the months ahead:
- Recommend to the Board an organizational structure for Confluence for the years ahead.
- Design and implement a budgeting process that involves school leadership while maintaining fiscal responsibility.
- Oversee the School Operation Managers.
- Oversee the completion and the implementation of Confluence’s Strategic Plan.
Help create interactive communication with parents in all Confluence schools.
