This Monday, theatre students at Grand Center Arts Academy learned that their school had received a $10,000 theatre grant from NBC R.I.S.E.
Mr. Sheley, a theatre teacher at GCAA, applied for the grant hoping to buy some new textbooks and update equipment. He was floored when GCAA was chosen as one of 50 schools across the US to receive the grant. It is even more powerful that they were the only school in Missouri to receive this funding.
Through R.I.S.E. (Recognizing and Inspiring Student Expression) America, NBC has awarded each of the 50 schools $10,000 that will cover the critical needs of their theatre programs ranging from production expenses to technical equipment and master classes. NBC is facilitating this along with Educational Theatre Foundation (ETF), a non-profit organization dedicated to shaping lives through theatre education.
This is great news for GCAA, and people are taking notice. We have received coverage on KSDK and KTRS.
